COMMUNITY GATHERING FOR JUSTICE AND PEACE

We are hosting another Community Gathering for Justice and Peace on Thursday evening, February 9, from 6:00 – 6:30, in the church sanctuary. The gathering includes readings and time for silence. It is an opportunity for people to pray, meditate, or simply be still, in the hope that peace and justice might come into our families, our country and our world. Please invite your neighbors and friends.

MIDDLE SCHOOL WINTER ADVENTURE

Our next Middle School Adventure will be held on Friday, February 10, from 1:00 to 6:00. We will head to Sunburst for an afternoon of tubing and return to the church for a pizza dinner. The cost is $20 and covers bus transportation, admission, and dinner. Each middle schooler (5th-8th grade) may invite a friend. Please register in advance by contacting Beckie Perez in the church office at office@portucc.org.

CHURCH SCHOOL MISSION PROJECT

Congratulations to our Church School kids who packed over 200 lunches on Sunday, January 29. The Church School will be assembling sandwiches, and packing brown bag lunches, again on Sunday, February 12. The lunch bags will be delivered to homeless men staying at the Guest House of Milwaukee. Over the next couple of weeks, everyone is invited to contribute personal care items for the Guest House. Please click here for more details.

BECOMING AN IMMIGRANT WELCOMING CONFERENCE

At the 2016 Annual Meeting of the Wisconsin Conference, a resolution was presented that encourages us to officially become an Immigrant Welcoming Conference.  In order for the resolution to come to a vote at the 2017 Annual Meeting at least 30% of our congregations need to study the issue before March 1.  We are hosting two study sessions on Sunday, February 12 and 19, immediately following the 10:00 service.  Alex Funk, the Chair of our Community Outreach Team, has offered to facilitate.  Please plan to join us!

SERVING AT ST. BENEDICT’S

For many years, our church has helped serve the evening meal at St. Benedict’s meal site in Milwaukee on the third Thursday evening in January and February. The 8th Grade Confirmation Class served the meal last month and the entire congregation is invited to come lend a hand on Thursday, February 16. We meet at the church at 3:30 and we are home by 7:30. If you would like to participate, please contact Jeff at minister@portucc.org, or call the church office.

WINTER CONGREGATIONAL MEETING REPORT

Our annual Winter Congregational Meeting was held on Sunday, January 29.  The two items of business were an end-of-the-year financial report and a vote to approve a 2017 Church Budget.

The good news is that we finished last year with a small surplus and that we approved a 2017 Church Budget.

The bad news is that we are still waiting to hear from about 20 families and individuals who made a pledge to support the church last year, but have yet to make a pledge for this year.  If you are one of these folks, we surely need your support.  Please complete your Pledge Form as soon as possible.

CHURCH SCHOOL

All children 4K through 7th grade are invited to participate in our Church School program, held on Sunday mornings at 10:00. Church School Schedule

NURSERY

Each Sunday morning during the 10:00 service, our church provides a Nursery for children newborn through 4-years-old. Parents are required to register their children, and to sign their children in and out of the nursery. We want to do our very best to make the nursery a safe and secure environment.

WEDNESDAY LUNCH AT CHURCH

Each Wednesday at Noon, you are invited to meet Jeff at church for lunch and Bible study. The group always takes time to visit before reflecting upon the lectionary reading for the upcoming Sunday. Coffee is always provided, but please bring your own lunch.

MEN’S BREAKFAST

Men in the church are invited to gather for breakfast every Thursday morning, at 8:00, at the Dockside Deli. The group often has fun considering a Question of the Day. If you are able, please come and join the conversation.

SNOW CANCELLATION POLICY

If it should be necessary to cancel one or both of our Sunday services, we will put a message on the church answering machine by 7:00 on Sunday morning. Please call the church office, 284-2022, if you have any doubts about the weather.

YOGA AT CHURCH

A gentle yoga class is held in Fellowship Hall every Wednesday evening from 5:15 - 6:15. The cost is $10 per class. For more information, please contact Susan Niederfrank at susanniederfrank@gmail.com.

ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS

An AA Group meets at our church every Sunday afternoon at 3:00. For more information, please contact the church office.

MISSED CHURCH?

If you wonder what you missed, copies of last Sunday’s bulletin are always available on the literature rack in the church entryway and CDs of the service are always available in the church office.

GLUTEN FREE COMMUNION

We continue to offer a gluten-free option for receiving the Sacrament of Holy Communion. The gluten-free communion bread is purchased commercially, and prepared separately, so that there is no chance of contact with our regular sourdough communion bread.
